Operation Python Dance II: No Proof Military Killed IPOB Members In Abia – Army

The Nigerian army has stated that there is no evidence that people were killed in the Southeast during the Operation Python Dance II.

It said reports that its personnel murdered members of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, were just hearsays.

Speaking with Punch, Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, 82 Division , Colonel Sagir Musa, said the operation will continue next year as Operation Python Dance III.

According to him, “People were said to have been killed but these are hearsays, these are claims, these are assertions, these are rumours, with no evidence.

“Can you show me the dead bodies? And can you tell me who is responsible? Certainly you cannot do that. So I think the best option is to go to another question that we can verify.

“Let ’s be specific and direct, when we showed our presence in Abia State, the same way we have shown our presence in other states in the southeastern part of Nigeria, namely in Enugu, Anambra, Ebonyi and Imo states, we were not quelling any riot because there was no riot at that time to quell.

“What we were doing, and we made it sufficiently clear, was an exercise. A Nigerian Army exercise! It is routine, it is normal. We had it last year, and because it is a scheduled annual training exercise, we are having it this year, and next year, by the special grace of the Almighty; we will still conduct the exercise , Egwu Eke III (Python Dance III). Now we are on Egwu Eke II (Python Dance II ). So it is not something new.

“Well, without being immodest, not only me, even you asking that question, you are satisfied . If you go to the police headquarters in all the states that Python Dance II is taking place, they will tell you that crime rate in the last few days has gone down.

“Even the Federal Road Safety Corps will tell you that accident statistics have gone down to a reasonable standard in the last few days.

“And I am telling you that in terms of agility, preparation, physical fitness, alertness and training objectives, I think we are gradually getting there. It is being achieved.

“So the obvious benefits are there.”

608 Repentant Boko Haram Insurgents Currently Undergoing Rehabilitation — Military

Published

on

Boko Haram

The military authority says no fewer than 608 repentant Boko Haram insurgents are currently undergoing De-radicalisation, Rehabilitation and Reintegration (DRR) Programme by Operation Safe Corridor (OSC) at Malam-Sidi, Gombe State.

Brig:- Gen. Musa Ibrahim, Commandant DRR Camp OSC made this known when the Managing Director, North East Development Commission (NEDC), Mr. Mohammed Alkali visited the camp on Saturday.

He said 14 of the repentant insurgents were foreigners from Cameroon, Chad and Niger Republic.

Ibrahim said: “From inception, we received 893 out of which 286 graduated and were returned to their respective states and countries for reintegration’’.

He said the personnel in the camp were working diligently with the mandate of OSC in conformity with international best practices.

According to him, the success of the programme will go a long way in restoring peace and security to the North East in particular and the country as a whole.

Ibrahim said the programme was in need of five Hilux vans, additional vocational center, accommodation for camp staff and clients, and prompt release of funds to run the power generator among others.

In his remarks, Alkali said the purpose of his visit was to have an on the spot appreciation of how the programme has been run.

He said NEDC would do everything possible to ensure that the programme succeeded by providing them with facilities needed.

‘`Mr. President established this organisation and the NEDC with the mandate to make sure peace came back to the region as it was before in terms of development’’, he said.

He, therefore, urged unrepentant insurgents who were still in the bushes causing mayhem to come and embrace peace and live a normal life.

News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Alkali also interacted with the repentant insurgents and inspected the camp facilities.

NAN reports that a cross-section of the clients expressed delight in the Federal Government intervention to rehabilitate them even after collateral damages they had caused the country.

Nigeria Is Not Working — Ex-APC Chairman, John Oyegun Laments

Published

on

Oyegun

Former national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), John Oyegun has lamented over the non-working state of the country and unhappiness across the nation.

Though Oyegun admitted that Nigeria has been growing in the last 20 years in his speech at the 17th edition of the Daily Trust Dialogue, he however stated that there is hardly a single administration that has not left office unpopular and unheralded in all those years.

The APC Chieftain also pointed out that a question that is yet to be asked is “why our people are increasingly unhappy with their governors within those 20 years.”

Oyegun said: “I borrow from what the former governor of Borno State (Kashim Shettima) said. He passionately appealed that we must try to make Nigeria work. Why is Nigeria not working? At the risk of being misinterpreted, let me make the point that we have been growing in those 20 years, every year and with every administration.

“I dare to even say that there is hardly a single administration in those 20 years that has not left office unpopular and unheralded.

Loading...

“We have never asked ourselves the question why are our people getting increasingly unhappy with their governors within those 20 years.

“Why are they getting poorer, why are they losing hope, those are the questions I think pose a threat to our democracy because today we are beginning to hear rumblings that we didn’t hear before.”

He also commented on Amotekun, the South-West security outfit which has ignited controversy in the last few days.

The former APC Chairman said, “Amotekun is just one of them which show a general feeling of enough is not being done in certain areas and this has been a growing syndrome in the last 20 years.

“What have we missed between government and the people? What should we be doing as government, as leaders that we are not doing? Why is it that our people are losing hope, losing faith in us, and hope in the nation?

“So, there is something fundamentally wrong I cannot give you the answer but it is something that another dialogue probably needs to address.”

“Democracy has to develop roots in our nation.”

Banning Not Enough, Arrest Yoruba Leaders Supporting ‘Amotekun’ — Miyetti Allah Tells FG

Published

on

Following the controversy trailing the establishment of a regional security outfit, AMOTEKUN which was recently launched by South West Governors to counter insecurity, Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore, the umbrella body for Fulani herders in the country has called for the arrest of Yoruba leaders who spoke in defence of the establishment of the security outfit.

This call was made by the National President General of Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore, Bello Abdullahi Bodejo while granting interview with The Sun.

Bello Abdullahi Bodejo alleged that the security outfit was established to ban Fulani herdsmen from Yorubaland.

He said: “They should not only ban it, but should arrest the leaders of this group. Like I said earlier, nobody or group has more security intelligence than the Police. The Army is doing enough; the DSS is also doing enough, likewise the Civil Defence.

“They are just doing all these things in order to stop the Fulani from coming into their area; it is just a hidden agenda to prevent the Fulani herdsmen from grazing in their God-given areas.

Loading...

“If you say you set up Amotekun to protect your region, what about the Northern Nigeria, what about the Southeast and the South-South and other places that don’t have that kind of thing. Nigeria is one; everything is one, unless they want to divide the country.

“I know some of their leaders have good hearts, but others have evil hearts, and those are the ones coming up with this agenda that the Fulani can’t do this and the Fulani can’t do that; all these things are happening because of Fulani; they are just against the Fulani.

“I support 100 percent the federal government banning it; and the leaders should be arrested. It is a deliberate plot against the Fulani. How many Fulani have been involved in crime and criminal activities in the area?

“Go and check, those people they have been parading as criminals are not Fulani; if they see a Fulani with his cattle inside the bush, they will be calling the Commissioner of Police, DPO, Area Commander and other personalities that they have caught a Fulani committing one crime or the other.

“The moment this is done, the herdsman is scared and he would be made to sell all his cows to free himself from that wicked accusation, that is why you see some of these people are jumping from here to here supporting illegalities and they have their aim.

Speaking during the interview, Bodejo pondered on why South West Governors can not use security agencies that are well organised and well accepted to tackle any security issue in their state.

He said; “We are following the anti-grazing law in Oyo very carefully, and we are sending our lawyers, but not much progress is being made in the court.

“I had a meeting recently with some Fulani from Oyo who came to visit me, they told me how pressure was being mounted on them; and that the environment was being made so harsh and uncomfortable for them. I told them to be law abiding while carrying out their businesses. There, they don’t have fathers or mothers, so the only solution is to approach the court where we can have justice as we are in Nigeria.

I tell you, whether the headquarters of Amotekun is in Oyo or any of the states in the Southwest, as a governor, you are the chief security officer of that state, and in that state, you have the police, the army, the DSS, civil defence, why can’t you use these security agencies that are very well organized, well accepted to tackle any security issue in your state, instead of bringing a different thing to create confusion. I don’t think that the Nigeria Police will support this kind of illegalities.
