Police and men of Department of State Services, DSS, today, reportedly laid siege to the residence of the presidential candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, in Abuja ahead of his planned campaign.
The former vice president disclosed this while speaking with Vanguard on telephone when the security agents surrounded his house in Abuja.
Atiku had earlier tweeted about the incident, saying over 30 armed security personnel had surrounded his residence.
On the street on which his house is situated, yesterday, there was no vehicular movement from the beginning and end of the road for all passers- by and other residents of the area as the place was condoned off, just as the mobile police men blocked both sides of the road with pick-up vans, buses and other cars.
The policemen were led to the residence by an Assistant Commissioner of Police, John, who despite pressure from journalists refused to give reasons for the action only said the instruction was from above.
They prevented Atiku’s colleagues who trooped to the place to sympathise with him from entering into Melaye’s house, even when they spoke with the leader of the police team.
Bayelsa: Keyamo Hails Supreme Court Verdict, Blames APC For Lyon’s Loss
Festus Keyamo, the minister of state for labour and employment, has blamed the All Progressives Congress (APC) for losing to Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Bayelsa state.
Recall that the Supreme Court on Thursday sacked David Lyon and Sen. Biobarakuma Degi-Eremienyo, as the governor and deputy elect in the Nov. 16, 2019 governorship election in the state.
Keyamo who made this known on Thursday, February 14, while reacting to the apex court judgment on the election in the state, commended the court for being firm and resolute.
“The S/Court has been firm & resolute so far regarding pre-election cases & Election Petitions. I commend their lordship.
“As a party, we have to look at our own internal mechanisms that make us give our victories needlessly away to the opposition & take appropriate actions,” Keyamo wrote on Twitter.
Bayelsa: Buhari’s Aide, Lauretta Onochie Blames APC, Reveals Secret About Lyon’s Loss
President Muhammadu Buhari’s special assistant on social media, Lauretta Onochie, on Friday, February 14, revealed secrets behind the Supreme Court’s judgement that sacked the former governor-elect of the Bayelsa state, David Lyon.
Onochie in a statement posted on her Facebook page said the screening organ of the ruling All Progressives Congressive (APC) should be blamed for the loss the party suffered in Bayelsa state.
She made this known in a statement titled, ‘Beauty from ashes’, that it is not the time to flex muscle, adding that the party leadership should reflect on how its screening organ failed Lyon and the people of the state.
The statement read: “This is not the Time to flex muscles. It’s time to reflect on how the APC screening organ, failed David Lyon and the people of Bayelsa.”
“It was heart-wrenching to see the photos of David Lyon rehearsing for a day that will not be. How is he, his family and his supporters ever going to get over this? APC Failed him.
“It’s indefensible. No excuse Can cover this one. We can’t be sentimental like PDP. We can’t stand on PDP antecedents.
“We can’t be unfair like PDP. We can’t be irresponsible like PDP. We can’t make excuses like PDP. We can’t be Tacky like PDP. We can’t be Lawless like PDP.
“For those who are still arguing blindly or postulating, read on: Law versus sentiments: Pocket lawyers like me: Total vote cast: EKEREMO: 41429 APC- 21489 or 51.9%, PDP- 18344 or 44.3% “What the Supreme Court ruled: EKEREMO: Total vote cast: 19934, PDP- 18344 or 92%, APC- 0%.
“Work it out for the other seven local government areas. Justice is not about how many states a political party has, it’s about what the law says.
“We must begin, as agents of change, to imbibe the culture of legality, consulting our laws in all we do and have absolute respect for our judiciary, especially the Supreme Court.”
