The suspects admitted being members of a deadly armed robbery and kidnapping gang terrorizing Imo, Abia and Rivers States. Their leader, School-Boy, said that they never knew that the deceased was an American soldier and that they never planned to kill him. He said;

“He tried to disarm me and in the process was killed. If we had not killed him, he would have killed us. He is strong with tough muscles and the only way to save our lives was to kill him.

We bundled him into the boot of our operational vehicle after he was kidnapped. We didn’t know who he was. While we were heading to our camp where we hope to keep him until ransom is paid. He pulled out his gun and started shooting at us from the boot and the bullet hit me on the leg and the driver on his hand.

Realizing the danger I asked our driver to stop the vehicle. As soon as the vehicle came to a halt we disarmed him. He was killed right there on the spot. We dumped his body inside a gutter and left. I want everyone to understand that I have no intention of killing him but he forced us into doing it,”

One of the suspects, Michael Ahamefuna, who is married with two children, recounts how he was introduced to crime

“I reside in Port Harcourt. I am from Abia state. I am a trader. I met School-boy in a smoking joint where we smoke drugs and he used to come and smoke drugs.

“He had injury on his leg then and he took me to his village and we met one KC. We formed a kidnapping gang. We kidnapped a man who paid us N1.5million and we went to another business that paid us N15million. We also picked someone in Owerri and we took the person to Iteam in Abia State. We got N10million from two victims, the last one that got us into trouble occurred in October 2018 and we lost our leader in that operation” he said

Policeman Shoots Driver In Imo After N50 Bribe Mistakenly Dropped On The Floor

A businessman and driver, Mr. Justice Eke, has escaped death by the whiskers when an officer of the Imo State Police Command has allegedly shot him for letting a N50 bribe offered to the officer drop on the floor.

The incident, which happened on Wednesday near Airport Junction along Owerri-Aba Express Road, saw the driver bleeding profusely as he lost control of the vehicle and skidded to a halt into the nearby bush.

While the trigger-happy police officer was escaping, he cocked his gun and threatened to shoot anyone who attempted to attack him.

It was gathered that the incident attracted other drivers, passersby and villagers and halted vehicular movement on the road for several hours before the team leader of the Mopol 88, Inspector Festus Omoruwa, was compelled by the passersby to take the victim to the Federal Medical Centre, Owerri.

When The Nation correspondent visited him at the FMC, the victim, a native of Umuoye Enyiogugu in Aboh Mbaise council area of the state and fish seller, said he was heading to a nearby market when the tragedy struck.

He said the police team mounted checkpoint and usual demanded N50 bribe from him.

“I brought out the N50 and as my car was moving slowly, I handed him the money. Mistakenly, the money did not reach his hand before falling on the ground.

“To my surprise, this infuriated the policeman as he ordered me to come down and pick up the money.

“You know, many vehicles were on line and moving slowly. I expected him to pick up the money. But, instead, he shot me almost from close range at the back of my chest,” Eke said.

He added that what saved his life was his seat, as according to him, the bullet pierced through the seat before hitting him.

“I thank God for everything. Without that, I think I could have been a dead man by now because of my own N50 which I gave out to the policeman”

Speaking with journalists at the state police command headquarters, Commissioner of Police, Bolaji Fafowora, said the command under his supervision would take drastic approach against police extortion and other vices along major roads in the state.

He added that the command under his watch would ensure absolute respect for human right at all times, as his command would not condone any form of incivility to members of the public or other unethical or unprofessional act or misconduct.

Delivery Man Caught On Camera Spitting On Customer’s Pizza

A Turkish prosecutor called for a sentence of up to 18 years for a delivery man who spat on a customer’s pizza before handing it over, local media reported Thursday.

The incident — which happened in 2017 in the central city of Eskisehir — was captured by a security camera in the customer’s apartment block, according to news agency DHA.

The footage showed the delivery man, identified as Burak S., spitting on the pizza and recording the moment on his mobile phone. His motive was unknown.

The defendant has already been fined 4,000 lira (600 euros) for endangering a customer’s health, and prosecutors are now seeking a lengthy prison sentence for “poisoning food”, DHA reported.

The owner of the apartment building alerted the customer after watching the security footage, prompting the criminal complaint.

Even by Turkey’s often tough judicial standards, the requested sentence is heavy, given that “membership of an armed terrorist organisation” carries a sentence of up to 15 years.
