Elder statesman, Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu has debunked the insinuations held by some sections of the country that the Igbo’s hate President Muhammadu Buhari, adding that the Igbos only want to be treated as integral part of the country.

He spoke at the weekend during a courtesy visit by the Emir of Bichi, Kano State, Aminu Ado Bayero in his house in Owerri, the Imo State capital.

According to Iwuanyanwu, Ndigbo do not hate the president and also have nothing against him.

He said: “He is not corrupt. Nobody should tell me that Buhari is not fighting corruption. He introduced War Against Indiscipline in this country. His lifestyle is simple. But he thinks Ndigbo hate him. We don’t hate him.

“Ndigbo believe in what Buhari believes in — that corruption should be stopped. That’s why you can hardly see any Igbo man in the list of corrupt Nigerians or those being prosecuted by the EFCC for corruption. Though, we may have some cases of 419. But, look at the case where our country was defrauded to the tune of $9.6billion. You can’t find any Igbo man there because we believe in what Buhari believes.

“But some people give wrong impression that Ndigbo hate Buhari. That’s not true.

“The only thing Ndigbo want is to be given our due in the country. Anything that is due to us, give it to us. When these things are not done and our people agitate for them, it looks as if Igbo hate Buhari”.

Iwuanyanwu, who described the Igbos as firm believers in Nigeria’s unity, said this was the reason they live in Kano State and every village in Nigeria.

He described late Emir of Kano, Ado Bayero as a nationalist, who believed strongly in Nigeria’s unity, recalling his role in protecting the Igbo and their businesses during the crisis of in Kano.

“Emir Ado Bayero was my personal friend. When he was alive and whenever he came to Imo State, he would not want to stay in government house but would always want to stay in my house. We built very wonderful relationship until he died and he held me in very high esteem. Now his son has become the Emir of Bichi”, he said.

While promising his continued support for the the monarch, Iwuanyanwu urged him to work with the Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi for the good of the people of Kano State.

Earlier, Emir Bayero said he came for the visit to continue the relationship that existed between his late father and Iwuanyanwu on one hand and the entire Ndigbo on the other hand as well tap from his wealth of experience.

PDP To Oshiomhole: Present Your Primary 6 Certificate

Published

on

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has challenged former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, to present his primary school leaving certificate to prove he attended school.

The Chairman of Edo State PDP Campaign Council for the 2020 gubernatorial election, Chief Dan Orbih issued the challenge on Monday while addressing party members and supporters at Ososo and Dangbala wards in Akoko-Edo Local Government Area of Edo State.

He further dared the former governor to come clean on the cause of the quarrel between him and his erstwhile protégé, Godwin Obaseki.

“They said Governor Godwin Obaseki who graduated from University of Ibadan has a Certificate. I’m bold to say that I challenge Adams Oshiomhole to show us his primary six Certificate.

“He should allow Edo people to decide who governs them…In four years, Godwin Obaseki has done more than what Oshiomhole did in eight years,” Orbih said.

Meanwhile, the state governor and PDP candidate in the forthcoming election, Obaseki promised that the construction of the 12.75km Ososo-Okpella road abandoned by the Oshiomhole administration would commence before end of the year.

The governor revealed that the chairman of BUA Cement company assured him that his organisation would fund the project.

Obaseki, who highlighted some of his first-term achievements, disclosed that his administration would execute maintenance work at the Ojirami Dam established by the administration of late Brig. General Samuel Ogbemudia (Rted) in a bid to address acute water supply in the rural area.

Edo 2020: We’ll Meet Violence With Violence — Oshiomhole

Published

on

Immediate past National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, has said that the party would not fold its arms and watch Governor Godwin Obaseki and the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP violently rig the September 19 governorship election, saying ‘’we will meet violence with violence.’’

In an interview on Arise Television, yesterday morning, Oshiomhole, who restated the reasons he is opposing Obaseki, and backing Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu picked holes in Obaseki’s alleged threat to deal with APC members and supporters in the guise of dealing with trouble makers.

On Sunday Governor Obaseki warned of stiff penalties against perpetrators of violence ahead of the poll and condemned the July 25 display by thugs at the gate of the Palace of the Omo N’Oba N’Edo Uku Akpolokpolo, Oba Ewuare II, the Oba of Benin.

Obaseki warned those intent on disrupting public peace stating that he is determined to carry out his primary responsibility of maintaining order and protecting lives and property as the Chief Security Officer of the state.

Reacting to Obaseki’s threat, Oshiomhole said: ‘’if they want violence, we will give them violence.’’

He said he is against Obaseki because the governor has not met the expectations of Edo people, abandoned the development plan of the state, wrote a petition to the President to get Dr Pius Odubu dropped as NDDC chairman; as well as a commissioner of the NDDC from Edo, making the state to lose two positions in the commission.

Regretting that he worked with Obaseki in 2016 without asking for his certificate, Oshiomhole said he was given wrong accounts of Ize-Iyamu four years, adding that Ize-Iyamu had not been a governor and he could not have said that the APC candidate is a thief.

However, responding Oshiomhole’s claims on ARISE Television programme, Special Adviser to Governor Obaseki on Media and Communication Strategy, Crusoe Osagie, challenged him to tell Nigerians the truth about the circumstances that led to his removal as APC chairman.

“Contrary to the narrative being advanced by the sacked national chairman that he was a victim of power play, Nigerians who have followed the events that led to Oshiomhole’s ouster closely, can attest to the fact that he was a victim of his own indiscretion and unholy machinations.

“In fact, in Edo State, Oshiomhole was the powerful force that millions of Edo people fought against, so that the governor could breathe and deliver good governance to them.”

“In Edo State, Oshiomhole turned against Governor Obaseki when the governor failed to yield to his subservience and his grand plot to rule by proxy. He literally invaded the Edo APC and set up parallel structures to hijack it. His predecessor, Chief Odigie-Oyegun allowed the state’s structure of the APC to carry out its activities without any interference. To Oshiomhole’s immoderation, Edo State is today a PDP state and we are free from his inanities.’’
