Ebonyi Governor Presents 2020 Budget Proposal Of N178bn

David Umahi - Chairman South East Governors Forum

Ebonyi State Governor, David Umahi, on Friday, presented the 2020 budget of N178.1 billion to the state House of Assembly.

The budget was lower than the 2019 figure of 188.4billion.

Umahi while presenting the budget, tagged: ‘budget of growth, consolidation, and transformation, thanked the House and other critical stakeholders who ensured the effective implementation of the 2019 budget.

The governor said the budget has a recurrent expenditure of N46.08 billion representing 25.8 percent and capital expenditure of N132 billion representing 74.1 percent.

He said: “The increase in the capital expenditure is due to the borrowing from the African Development Bank (ADB) for the construction of the state ring road.

“It is pertinent to state that the fund is still with the ADB and not paid into the state’s accounts as the contractors will generate a certificate and get paid directly from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN.”

Umahi said personnel cost in the budget was N18.4billion with provisions for payment of the new minimum wage for workers in the state.

The governor added: “I use this opportunity to urge the organised labour to hasten its negotiations with the government on the minimum wage for its implementation.

“I have maintained that the minimum wage starts with the Local Government Areas (LGAs) because a chain is as strong as its weakest link.

“Whatever is agreed at the LGA level is what we will pay and I maintain that no LGA should spend more than 60 percent of its earning on paying salaries.

“The World Bank has instructed that citizens must be part of budgeting which means that they must be accommodated in it with every fund of the state belonging to them.” (NAN)

There Was Corruption Under Jonathan, But In Buhari’s Govt Corruption Is Official — Reno Omokri

Reno Omokri, a former aide to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan has said that corruption under President Muhammadu Buhari has become official.

Omokri, a fierce critic of the Buhari administration stated this when he featured as a guest on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics.

He noted that there was indeed corruption in governments that preceded Buhari’s administration, including that of Jonathan and late President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua.

He however, claimed that while the Jonathan and Yar’Adua’s governments had a human face, that the current government did not.

“When you compare this administration with former President Jonathan’s government or Yar’Adua’s government, yes, there was some corruption but there it’s a human government.

“The difference between that government and this government is that under Jonathan there was corruption, in this administration, corruption is official,” he said.

Responding to a question on the recent arrest of Nigerian Instagram celebrity, Raymond Abass alias Hushpuppi, Omokri said that the current government failed to lead by example.

Omokri said nothing was known about Hushpuppi under Jonathan’s administration, adding that he exhibited what he saw Nigerian leaders doing.

Hushpuppi: I Am Ready To Go To Jail If… — Dogara

A former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, has said he is ready to go to jail if the All Progressives Congress (APC), Nigeria’s ruling party, can establish any form of links or connection between him and Hushpuppi.

Recall that APC had claimed in a statement issued by its Deputy National Publicity Secretary, Yekini Nabena, that the leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party should be investigated, adding that “at different times, ‘Hushpuppi’ was photographed in Dubai meeting with the PDP’s 2019 presidential candidate, Alh. Atiku Abubakar; former Senate President, Bukola Saraki; former Speaker, House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara; Senator Dino Melaye among other PDP stalwarts.”

However, reacting to the allegation, Dogara who denied any links or connection to the alleged internet fraudster, said he has agreed to waive his rights for trial and ready to go to jail if the APC can prove its allegations.

Dogara wondered why similar allegations were not leveled against some APC Governors, who had appeared in similar photos with an alleged money launderer, Mompha.

The statement entitled, “The fatuous and infantile statement by the smellfungus called Yekini Nabena” reads; “The statement issued by one Yekini Nabena on behalf of the All Progressives Congress (APC) desperately seeking to link Rt. Hon. Yakubu Dogara to suspected cyber criminals on the basis of a group picture taken at a public event, is to say the least; infantile, rash and fatuous.

“This smellfungus, called Nabena should have known that it is share mindlessness to attempt to execute mischief and blackmail in plain sight before the public some of whom are better informed. Who is that fool that links people to criminal activity simply because they appeared in a group picture at a public event comprising of people from different walks of life?

“If appearing in a group photograph is what Nabena is now using to establish a link or connection to crimes or alleged criminals then why didn’t he issue such a statement in the wake of the arrest of a suspected money launderer by name Ismaila Mustapha, AKA: Mompha whose pictures with notable personalities including some APC Governors are all over the social media? Is Nabena guilty of selective amnesia or share perfidy? Who is Nabena scared of? Who is he trying to fool?

“For the records, Rt Hon Yakubu Dogara has agreed to waive his right to a trial and go to jail if Nabena establishes any form of links or connection between him and the alleged cyber criminal before the event where the picture was taken and after the event until now. For Rt Hon Yakubu Dogara, that picture was just another picture among the thousands, if not hundred of thousands of such pictures with Nigerians from all walks of life.

“If the said Nabena is worth his salt, next time he speaks he should speak to issues affecting the welfare of our union which are well known to all discerning Nigerians. Nabena should or ought to know that there is no honour in speaking about group pictures taken at public events when the nation is bleeding and most Nigerian families are struggling and hurting.”
