Assassins Kill APC Chieftain In Ibadan

Gunmen suspected to be assassins on Wednesday killed a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State, Alhaji Babatunde Oreitan.

Oreitan, one of the leaders of the party in Ona Ara Local Government, was reportedly killed by the gunmen yesterday afternoon.

Sources said the APC chieftain was murdered in his house at Oremeji Agugu, Ibadan.

Although details of his death were sketchy, it was gathered that the APC chieftain was murdered after Dhur prayer in a mosque located in his house.

Efforts to get the reaction of police spokesman Mr. Olugbenga Fadeyi proved abortive, as calls put to his line were not successful.

But, the Deputy National Youth Leader of the party, Afeez Mobolaji Repete, confirmed the killing in a post.

Repete, a former special adviser to ex-governor Abiola Ajimobi on Youths and Students Matters, described the deceased as a devout Muslim.

He said: “The leader of APC in Ona Ara Local Government, Alhaji Babatunde Oreitan, has been murdered.

“Alhaji Oreitan, you were a principled politician, a devout Muslim and a political leader.

“Those who killed you will never have peace. Rest in peace Baba Gbemisola, Baba Lateef.”

VIDEO: SARS Operatives Kill Footballer In Sagamu

In a viral video shared on the Internet, some SARS officials have allegedly killed a football player in Sagamu area of Ogun State.

The community is presently on fire as a young footballer, identified as Tiamiyu Kazeem alias Kaka, was allegedly chased to his death by some SARS operatives.

It was gathered that Kaka was on his way to Sagamu from Abeokuta after his training when he ran into SARS operatives who labeled him a yahoo boy and started chasing him.

Eyewitnesses claimed that the officers shot at his car tyre which made it somersault. On seeing what had happened, the officials ran away, leaving Kaka to his fate.

The footballer was later rushed to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Residents have taken to the streets to protest the murder of the youngster who once played for the Remo Football club.

FSARS Officer Slumps And Dies In His Office

A senior officer with the Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad, FSARS identified as Christopher Akpan has reportedly slumped and died while inside his office.

The Assistant Superintendent of Police, ASP Christopher Akpan, died on Friday after he returned from an operation and went to the bathroom to freshen up, PM Express reports.

He was said to have slumped and was down unconscious before some other officers discovered what happened and rushed him to an undisclosed hospital where doctors merely certified him dead and the corpse was deposited at the mortuary for autopsy report.

What would have led to his death was yet unknown because the autopsy report has not been made public but his colleagues said there was no report that he was sick the previous day.

The late Akpan was former Station Officer of FSARS before he was elevated to a higher position before his eventual death.

He hailed from Akwa Ibom State and was married with children who reside at Okota Barracks in Lagos.

Since the incident happened, some of his colleagues had expressed shock over the incident describing the late Akpan as a disciplined officer, who worked diligently and professionally with his other colleagues.

Mother, Daughter, Vulcaniser Burnt As Tanker Explodes In Ogun

A woman, her daughter and a vulcaniser on Saturday suffered varying degrees of burns after a petrol-laden tanker fell and exploded at Atatun, Ijaiye-Tutun, in Abeokuta on Friday evening.

According to an eyewitness, the victims were immediately rushed to the Federal Medical Centre, Idi-Aba, Abeokuta.

No fewer than five houses and several shops were burnt in the incident.

An eye witness, who simply identified herself as Mrs Olufote, told newsmen that the incident happened when a fuel tanker suffered a flat tyre.

She said the driver had parked beside the road to fix the flat tyre unaware that he was parking in a sloppy area.

The eyewitness added that as he was alighting the vehicle to negotiate with a vulcaniser beside the road, the tanker tilted and the container fell.

”The tanker had a flat tyre and in the process of trying to fix it, the tanker exploded and even the vulcaniser who was to work on the tyre was affected.

“The vulcaniser was fixing a motorcycle tyre when the tanker exploded.

“There were many houses that were affected, with some burnt to ashes. In fact, a mosque was also affected,” she said.

Mr Babatunde Akinbiyi, the Public Relations Officer of the Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE), confirmed the incident to NAN on Saturday.

Akinbiyi said the fire was later put out after some houses had been burnt.

The TRACE spokesman stated that the tanker driver erroneously parked in a sloppy area while trying to fix his tanker’s tyre.

According to him, the container removed from the hook, fell and exploded.
