Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde last Monday revealed that he fought coronavirus with carrots, vitamin C and black seed oil with honey while in isolation.
The governor revealed this in Ibadan in a telephone interview with an FM radio station.
He had last week announced that he was tested positive for the disease and went into isolation.
But two days ago, he announced that he had become negative after series of tests.
The governor said he only made efforts to boost his immunity and used his time in isolation to regularly exercise on the treadmill.
Makinde said in boosting his immunity to fight coronavirus, he consumed vitamin C, carrots and black seed oil mixed with honey.
He said: “My very good friend and brother, Dr Muyideen Olatunji is the one in charge of the primary healthcare for Oyo State. He came to me and said, look, I am going to send to you this black seed oil, it boosts immunity. So, I mixed it with honey and took one teaspoon in the morning and one in the evening.
“So, there are local solutions to boost immunity. Our people should not fret. Just as I’ve been able to get the virus out off my system, so will it be for majority of our people.
“I’ve lost a little bit of weight which I think is good. When you’re in isolation, the tendency is just to watch television and eat, I was eating amala. But I was also using the treadmill. It has also been a period to reflect and look at the programmes, policies and the things we want to do for the people of Oyo state and also reflect on how the COVID-19 is going to affect us socially and economically.”
He faulted the Federal Government’s palliative measures in the state, saying
“Two days ago in the task force meeting, the Head of Service told me that the conditional cash transfer from the Federal Government would be N20, 000 to people in 10 local government areas of Oyo State and I said, it’s good, but this programme predates this administration and I’ve never been impressed for one day about the way they identified the poorest and the impact.
“They’ve been making noise in the newspapers that they have some items for us. So, I sent the people at the liaison office. First day at the Nigerian Governors’ Forums’ meeting, I was told those items were taken to liaison offices. So, I called the liaison office in Abuja and asked, did you receive anything, but they said no.”
VIDEO: Difference Between COVID-19 And Malaria — NCDC DG
Director-General of NCDC, Dr Chikwe Ihekweazu, has explained the difference between Malaria and COVID-19 (coronavirus) during a recent press address.
Dr. Ihekweazu stated that COVID-19 is caused by a virus while malaria is caused by a parasite so they are very different although, the initial presentation of both diseases are similar and you can have both at the same time.
He says they are completely different diseases but there are no specific treatment for COVID-19 so the best way they have been managing patients is to treat the specific symptoms presented by the patient until their bodies recover by itself.

Plant Extract In Madagascar’s COVID-19 Cure Grows In Nigeria — Health Minister
Nigeria’s Minister of Health, Osagie Ehanire has stated that the plant extract in Madagascar’s Coronavirus cure, grows in the country.
He made this known while speaking at the daily briefing of the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 on Monday May 11.
Osagie Ehanire said Nigeria’s consignment of the herbal drug which is currently in transit will be subjected to analysis by the National Institute for Pharmaceutical Research and Development (NIPRD) to determine its efficacy and safety before use.
“We are going to get samples of the herb of the botanical product for analyses and also probably use that opportunity to speak with the health authorities there particularly the scientific community on how they use it.
“We will also give it to the research community here with us to examine and see what they can do with it.
“We understand that it is something called Artemisia Annua, which also grows here. But we would like to get that sample and compare it with the strain here to know if they are exactly identical or similar and then see what properties it has.
“It will be subjected to analysis to find out what works in there and how it works and is used in getting a cure. All countries around the world are interested in finding a cure and we are not different; So we’ll look at all options and promises that have been made.
“Before we give any of these medicines to our people we will make sure they are actually safe and that they work.”
We earlier reported that President Buhari has ordered the importation of the acclaimed coronavirus remedy by Madagascar to Nigeria.
This was made known by, Chairman of the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 and Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha. He said;
“Madagascar has made allocations to various countries, and sent them to Guinea Bissau. We‘re supposed to make arrangements to freight Nigeria’s allocation from Guinea Bissau; it‘ll be subjected to the standard validation process for pharmaceuticals.
“Mr President has given instructions for the airlifting of Nigeria’s allocation of the Madagascar COVID-19 Syrup; also given clear instructions that it must be subjected to the standard validation process for pharmaceuticals; there will be no exceptions for this.”
Chinese Doctors Discover Coronavirus In Semen Of Recovered Male Patients
Chinese doctors have discovered the presence of coronavirus in the semen of both infected and recovered male patients.
A study by doctors at China’s Shangqiu municipal hospital of 38 men hospitalized with the virus found that six of them tested positive for coronavirus in their semen.
One of the patients in the study at Shanghai Municipal Hospital in Henan Province, China, tested positive for coronavirus in his semen 16 days after coming down with the virus and three days after recovering from the virus.
It has raised fears the deadly disease could be sexually transmitted, with health chiefs considering whether to advise people against having sex for a set time after they have recovered.
The team wrote in a study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association: “Further studies are required with respect to the detailed information about virus shedding, survival time and concentration in semen,
“If it could be proved that Sars-CoV-2 can be transmitted sexually, it might be a critical part of the prevention, especially considering the fact that Sars-CoV-2 was detected in the semen of recovering patients.”
The research team said the coronavirus could be transferred to the male reproductive tract, especially where there is local inflammation.
They said: “Even if the virus cannot replicate in the male reproductive system it may persist, possibly resulting from the privileged immunity of testes.”
This new research from China contradicts previous findings that did not detect coronavirus in the semen of infected patients. A previous study of 12 coronavirus patients in February and March found that all of them tested negative for Sars-CoV-2 in their semen samples.
Therefore, scientists have agreed to conduct a bigger and more detailed study to determine is the virus can actually be found in the semen of recovered male patients.
